David Squillace - Once Upon A Time In Napoli (CRMLP036)

In a much anticipated return, one of the scene's most esteemed producers Davide Squillace is back with a ten track album. To be released on Crosstown Rebels this march, 'Once Upon A Time In Napoli' provides an eclectic range of both hard-hitting and introspective productions. This release paves the way for an exciting year ahead with several more releases in the pipeline.

Prepare to be immediately drawn into the album with effervescent opening track 'The Boogie Man'. Exploring a range of wooden percussion, Squillace layers up with distant chord synthesis, statement vocal and a sturdy kick. 'In The Mood For Love' follows with an array of drum pad beats developing gradually in to an anticipated second drop littered with claps and sitar-esque melodies. Distorted vocals and incredible percussion, provided by Italian drum guru Paki Palmieri, form the basis of 'Dada Is Back'. 'How We Communicate' has an otherworldly feel with gnarled vocals and energetic snares.

"'Once Upon A Time In Napoli' is the story of my twenty years in dance music. The album covers the many textures of this journey, with influences of the early days in Naples to my Circoloco residency in Ibiza. Ranging from the warmth of classic analogue synths to the crisp precision of digital beats" Davide Squillace.

The second half of the album starts off with a solid kick, chok-full of wildlife samples, 'Noah' is a enaging cosmos of indigenous experimentation. The gradual nature of 'Holy Motors' leaves the listener hankering for more and carrying on the lively vibe. 'Vostok'  is not for the fainthearted. Squillace incorporates filthy bass, mad klaxons, cowbells and a whole heap of variety into this exorbitant tune. And finally 'Napoli Texas' opens with a delicate symbol and floundering bassline. An excellent example of the renowned producer's dancefloor filling production.

Jonathan Kaspar - Boson (RBL050)

Taking the first step into 2018, Rebellion welcomes Cologne’s Jonathan Kaspar. Hot on the heels of his debut release Zarun on Crosstown Rebels as part of the new Spirits compilation, the accomplished producer invites us into his world to deliver a wholly mystical two track EP.

Deep, rumbling pads swell and fall as subtle shakes entice the senses in title track Boson. Sonder soon follows with melodic bursts and deep chords in dreamy layers. “I made both tracks right after each other and immediately felt they paired up really nicely,” Jonathan reveals. ‘Boson’ is raw, bassy and percussive, whereas ‘Sonder’ holds a certain deepness, a hidden vocal and a lot of different noises. I remember so many nights and days playing them out. They are like the soundtrack of my 2017.“

DJ and producer Jonathan Kaspar has released on the likes of Objektivity, Pets Recordings and Kompakt´s KX, while also being resident of the famed Gewölbe club. A standout of last year was his massive Ibiza anthem, Khaya, named in Pete Tong’s top ten ‘Class of 2017’. Big things are set for 2018, starting with remixes for Catz ´n Dogz, Hyenah and Pokerflat plus this solo EP on Rebellion.

Tracklist:

2. Sonder

SIS - Karmir Nur (CRM195)

SIS, the alias of Burak Sar, returns once again to Crosstown Rebels. Following on from releases such 2012's Round Pen, 2015's Sombra India and last year's The Blind Side, The German-born producer - heavily influenced by his Turkish roots - presents us with this tribal-threat.

SIS explains that it was sending his first ever demo tape to Crosstown Rebels in 2004 that initiated his relationship with the label and tells us to "expect some rolling dance floor breakers".

'Karmir Nur' gets the EP underway. Sensual strings abound with a heady, tribal chant that lulls you into a state of hypnosis. 'Tima' rolls along, building slowly as the layers pull you in deeper still towards those familiar strings. 'Dandini' brings back the tribal chanting. The vocals are backed by mesmeric drums, perfect for an intoxicating, dance floor procession.

Burak Sar has released a number of records on renowned imprint such as Get Physical Music, Mobilee and Cocoon Recordings as well as running his own successful label  Cocolino Records

Pale Blue - You Stopped Dying (CRM194)

Pale Blue, the duo of Elizabeth Wight and Mike Simonetti, released their debut album too much critical acclaim back in 2015. They come together once again with their latest EP 'You Stopped Dying' due to drop on Crosstown Rebels in February.

"The 'You Stopped Dying' EP takes influence from shoegaze groups like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine and moves it to the dance floor...The result is a strange hybrid that some have called "technogaze"...This would never work if Liz wasn't such a strong vocalist. Her amazing vocal range makes it easy." Mike Simonetti.

Pale Blue is a hypnotic affair, the driving bass sitting perfectly under Wight's powerful yet ethereal vocals. 'Daughter Of Babylon' takes the record into heavier techno territory with its thudding bass and Wight's breathy vocals delicately layered over the top. On the flip side, 'Love' is an unapologetically industrial number with screeching synths that echo around Wight's vocals.

Simonetti and Wight have each earned their musical stripes in their own rights. Simonetti founded the hugely popular Italians Do It Better as well as his own successful record label 2MR. He has released a slew of records on highly regarded imprints such as Me Me Me, Correspondant and Public Release, and enjoys a fruitful career as a touring DJ, which shows no sign of abating. Wight has previously lent her exhilarating vocals to the West Coast band, Silver Hands of which she was once one half.

1. You Stopped Dying
2. Daughter Of Babylon
3. Love
4. Love (Dub)

Joeski - I Want You (CRM193)

Following on from a hectic summer touring across the globe, NY producer Joeski returns to the studio to create his next release, due on Crosstown Rebels in 2018.

The release unfolds with the original version of 'I Want You', a fierce, driving beat is juxtaposed alongside the sensual and smoldering vocal as the bassline rumbles on. Pure 4am, fist pumping pleasure. The flip side introduces the disco mix of the title track. But don't let the 'disco' lull you into a false sense of security. The track is fuelled by intense industrial sounding smashes and an abundance of layers that creep ever closer.

A founding member of NYC's The Chocolate Factory DJ Collective, Joeski has been a staple in the underground scene in New York since 1991, holding down a residency at the city's famed nightclub - Roxy. He has played alongside the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Louie Vega and Roger Sanchez. His career has seen him release on Electrik Soul, Siesta Records, Chez Music and Camouflage Recordings as well as launching his own imprint Maya in 2001. This year, the prolific producer has juggled a jam-packed touring schedule taking in Australia, New Zealand, South America and Europe, as well as Ibiza for Do Not Sleep and Misfits.

Tracklist:
1. I Want You (Original Acid Mix)
2. I Want You (Disco Mix)

Riva Starr - Adventures In Drums (CRM192)

The brainchild of Damian Lazarus, Crosstown Rebels has become home to many big hitters. Following on from his remix of Satori earlier this year, Riva Starr delivers his own, three-part tribal beast, 'Adventures In Drums'.

'My Afrika' opens up the EP with what would appear to be a tribal leader commanding your attention as the wobbly synths draw you in. As the heady bass kicks in you can't help but succumb to the rhythm. On 'Eurovoodoo', alien sounding synths are weaved amongst high hats luring you into a trance-like, hypnotic state. 'El Sonido'  leans towards a faster, flamenco style sound with tribal singing beckoning you to the dancefloor.

Riva Starr is the alias of East London based Stefano Miele. He has long been a staple in the club scene bringing dancefloor fire to some of the world's biggest stages, from Glastonbury to Japan's Fuji Rock. His credibility as an artist has led to collaborations with siome of the industry's biggest players, including the likes of Green Velvet, as well as remixing for a number of high-profile musicians such as Wiley and London Grammar. Founder of Snatch!, in 2017 was a monumental year for the label having reached 100th release.
