Psychemagik - Black Noir Schwarz (CRM122)

Back with another serious heavy hitter, Crosstown Rebels presents the latest from dream team Psychemagik, ‘Black Noir Schwarz’ - their first original production not to be self-released and already championed by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. A club weapon of psychedelically charged, electro-tinged epic proportions, the original is driven by the monster wonky bassline, dark and sultry vocal (from Renata De Sutter) and freaky synths. Spooky keys and chords, and grinding distorted bass bring the track to even murkier depths. Featuring remixes by the legend that is Tensnake and ex Audio Bully Minéo, make no mistake ‘Black Noir Schwarz’ is set to destroy all dancefloors in its wake.

UK dance music heroes, avid vinyl collectors and masters of the re-edit, Danny McLewin and Tom Coveney aka Psychemagik first entered the public consciousness with their supreme, balearic pop and 12” disco edits. Since then the UK duo has since released an impressive array of highly acclaimed original productions and remixes. Recent remix projects include Bryan Ferry, Haim, Boy George, The Villagers, Azari & III, Metronomy, Chapel Club, Kauf and Mirror People. As well as the superb ‘Magik Sunrise’, another of their much lauded compilations, the self-released ‘Diabolical Synthetic Fantasy’ featured in the top 10 compilations of 2013 at most good record shops bestsellers lists globally including Rough Trade, Phonica and was named the No1 Compilation Of the Year at Piccadilly Records. The have just returned from a world tour of Australia, USA, Mexico, Asia and Europe.

Tensnake needs little introduction. A household name since his dancefloor smash ‘Coma Cat’ on Permanent Vacation, the Hamburg born DJ and producer Marco Niemerski has since been in ever-increasing demand. His music effortlessly transcends genres and his forthcoming debut album ‘Glow’ is set to cement his reputation as a major talent. For Crosstown Rebels, Tensnake delivers a full-bodied and rolling ‘Black, Noir...’ rework.

Ex Audio Bully Tom Dinsdale aka Minéo has been buried away in the studio for the past couple of years working on music for his new solo project. With his latest release ‘Turn Out The Lights’ flying high on Hot Creations, Mineo arrives on Crosstown Rebels and turns in a totally fresh take on ‘Black Noir Schwarz’, revelling in a P-funk style groove and filtered vox.

Ida Engberg - Devil Dance (CRM123)

Next up on Crosstown Rebels is a classy deep tech cut from one of Sweden’s finest exports - Ida Engberg. Making her debut on Crosstown Rebels with ‘Devil Dance’, Ida proves her undeniable power to move the dancefloor as she combines her tough yet groovy style with a sexy dose of acid. B-side ‘Silhouette Of A Ghost’ is a housier affair, with a lighter bounce yet injected with some filthy distorted bass.  Featuring reworks by the legendary Mr G and Ida’s close cohort Adam Beyer, the ‘Devil Dance’ package is essential for any DJ box and best served up on a system that’s worthy.

Ida Engberg is a global techno megastar. DJing from an incredibly young age and working her way up from local bars in hometown Stockholm to residencies in Marbella followed by season in Ibiza 2005, Ida then turned attention to production and by 2007 had releases out on Get Physical and Pickadoll. With European tour dates pouring in, Ida came to play her first Drumcode gig in 2008 and later joined the ranks of the juggernaut collective in 2011, often playing alongside Drumcode founder Adam Beyer and also making her mark with releases on the label. The dancefloor domination has continued with sets at the most prestigious clubs and festivals in the world. 2014 will see Ida kick off a residency for Verboten in NYC plus appearances at Damian Lazarus’s next Rebel Rave and 9th annual Get Lost in Miami. Ida is to follow this up with a series of EPs for Crosstown Rebels so watch this space.

Delivering two mixes of ‘Devil Dance, prolific UK techno veteran Mr G bestows his unmistakable raw and bass heavy thump and groove with his NY Dub’ and ‘NY Tribal Dub. Mr G is a legend by anyones standards - a stronghold in the industry as much as in his pioneering days with The Advent. Nowadays Mr G is found lighting up the catalogues of Rekids, Running Back, Bass Culture and Contemporary Scarecrow as well as releasing on his own imprint Phoenix G.

Fellow Swedish techno royalty Adam Beyer delivers a suitably loopy remix ofDevil Dance - clunking and chunking up the percussion and with a groovy little suction motif, Adam once again proves he’s a true master of rhythm. Launching the now seminal label Drumcode in 1996, Beyer is the kingpin of the Stockholm scene and as well as a plethora of releases on labels Planet Rhythm, Truesoul and of course countless on own labels Drumcode and Code Red, Adam has also recently created a stunning live act with Cari Lekebusch.
