Dinky - Slowly (CRM171)

Closely following the release of her critically acclaimed album 'Valor', trained musician Dinky releases the second single from the album on Crosstown Rebels. The stunning 'Slowly' also gets the remix treatment from fellow Panorama Bar favorites and Berliners Matthew Styles and Radio Slave.

Dinky's 'Valor' as a body of work tells a deeply personal narrative, made during a period where her life was in danger during a troubled pregnancy. Recognized by Mixmag as 'the most accomplished - and definitely the most personal' of her six albums to date, where 'the resultant project turned out to be a passionate and beautiful work'.

'Slowly', like most of the tracks on the album is centered around Dinky's illustrious vocals. Resident Advisor said of the vocals "[I can see that I'm losing you slowly] is as poignant as the song's fragile piano". Dinky explains "Slowly" is the most special song on the album to her, 'It represents in its pure essence where melancholy and freedom meet. The song was written in a difficult moment where I had to let go of a lot of fears and just accept. It's a song about detachment where losing can be a gain'

Matthew Styles is a highly respected DJ and producer who as the first label manager of Crosstown Rebels has since made his way as a producer in his own right releasing on the likes of Ostgut Ton and his own Running Back Records that he runs with Gerd Janson. His remix takes the song to euphoric heights with its infectious bassline and impressive disposition. Dinky reveals that 'Matthew knew the song and its meaning so well that he captured its spirit perfectly'.

Matt Edwards Aka Radio Slave is also back on the label since his highly celebrated remix of Aphrohead last year. Owner of Rekids, matt recently released 'Vision', which celebrated 10 years of the label. Here for his first remix, he delivers a pulsating beat, intricate in its ethereal chords and vocals. For his second remix he conjures a stripped down, minimalistic version with broken percs and fervid synths for a beautiful and compelling effect.

Matthew Styles - Sleepless (CRM155)

A true unsung heroes of the underground house community, Matthew Styles is an effortless producer and faultless DJ, making him the perfect regular at the likes of Panorama Bar in Berlin, and putting his skills as an engineer in demand for many luminaries.

A decade ago he was at the healm of Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels as its first label manager, steering it through some of its most successful releases, and he has since made his footprint as a producer in his own right. Last year he steered the fourth episode of Crosstown Rebels Rebel Rave mix series, said by Mixmag to "create a sense of excitement that no podcast ever will".

"I've got a very long history with Crosstown Rebels, but I'd never given Damian a demo up until now" explains Styles. "However I felt that with these songs they were right for the label and I was very happy that he agreed. Each track represents a different mood but I think all fit with the label's ethos". Moving from the solid, big room sound of 'Clandestine Emotions', into the layered beats and bleeps of 'Wrong Move', through to the classic breakbeat of 'Avon' and gentle elegant basslines of 'Sleepless', Matthew Styles proves he can master any style and keep his authentic sound embedded within it.

Firmly schooled in the history of dance music as a DJ, Styles's father was a disc-jockey and long time member of DJ culture pioneers DMC, instilling in him the age-old tradition of moving a crowd with music. From a recording career on esteemed imprints such as Running Back, Ostgut Ton and Rekids, and regular appearances at clubs such as Fabric,, Munich's Bob Beaman, Concrete in Paris and the aforementioned Panorama Bar, Matthew's priority has been intrinsically placed with servicing the needs of a dance floor.

Rebel Rave 4 - Matthew Styles Rebel Rave Mix (CRMCD028)

Rebel Rave 4 is a scrupulous odyssey across three discs swarming with rare remixes and special cuts from the long-standing label Crosstown Rebels. Highlighting material from former Bloc Party performer turned solo star Kele Okereke, standoffs between T.E.E.D. & Eats Everything and Jamie Jones & Luca C and interpretations from dance music great Cassius, Dixon, Adam Beyer, Tale Of Us, Maceo Plex, Herbert & more, these are future classics to shift your senses.

Those that are familiar with Berlin-based Matthew Styles know that he stands for timeless curation and is armed with a meticulous musical style. The DJ's favourite DJ steps up to curate the third disc of Crosstown Rebels' Rebel Rave series. As former label manager, Matthew Styles shaped and sculpted the first five years of the label's existence, giving him an unrivaled insight into its foundations. His selection and integration attests to this with well-concealed gems from the likes of Seth Troxler's The Royal We, Radio Slave (Canvas), Josh Wink, Mr G, Matthew Jonson, Freaks and Rob Mello.

"Putting together the tracklist for this mix, and listening to songs that spanned 12 years, I'm still surprised by many of the records we worked at those years ago and how well many of those classics have stood the test of time. There is so much variety and it's hard to pigeonhole, but I hope to have put some of my perspective on Crosstown Rebels". Matthew Styles on Rebel Rave 4
