Mark Jenkyns - 4.1 (RBL046)

Mark Jenkyns returns to the Crosstown Rebels family with his latest release on their sister label Rebellion. Complete with a remix from label newcomer James Dexter, 4.1 is an array of tribal beats, exploratory percussion and mesmerizing vocals.

Taking a divergent approach to his production, evocative vocals envelope a naggingly effective bassline and melody in title track 4.1. Jenkyns explains that 'the track is something different, it's a little groover with a hypnotic vocal perfect for outside parties'. On the flip, James Dexter has curated an almost entirely different track on the remix, bringing his signature bassline to the space-age electronic samples.

Formerly a steel engineer, Jenkyns discovered his passion for djing and production after his first season on the White Isle. Earning his stripes through numerous gigs and a residency for Paradise at DC 10, Jenkyns has had several releases on Hot Creations as well as Suara, Of Unsound Mind, Lost And Viva.

A reputable figure within house music, James Dexter boasts an impressive array of previous releases on the likes of Poker Flat Recordings, Dessous Recordings and Holid Trax. These productions have earned James regular features and chart success on download sites, Beatport and Traxsource.

Luca Cazal - Mariri (CRM129)

To listen to Luca Cazal describe his forthcoming EP; his first solo offering after being involved in some of the biggest and most profile releases of recent times, including Infinity Ink, Luca C & Brigante, Invisible Cities and of course global mega outfit Hot Natured, is to eavesdrop on a producer breaking through with a singular vision, taking aim directly at the dance floor.

"With my first EP I wanted to show different sides of my musical output, whilst keeping to the spectrum of club music" says Luca. With a vault of various studio projects to his name, Luca embarks on a quest of self-discovery with his first solo release on Crosstown Rebels. "I seem to have found myself involved with so many different projects in recent times so with my EP it was liberating to be left to roam free." he continues.

Title track Mariri is a voyage of tightly programmed classic tech-house that reaches its apex amongst its echoing eerie vocals. Indeed the vocal started life as a field recording made by Luca in Peru, a constant inspiration in his work. The bare murky beats of the EP's lead track are remixed by Detroit mainstay Stacey Pullen with further rasps of raw production.

Continuing to hover on the edge of techno, the analogue offering "The Bullfrog", co-produced with Hot Creations new talent Mark Jenkyns, projects the EP further onto the dark dance floor.

Ending with his collaboration with BL_NK SP_C_S, Luca adds the perfect tone to the passion filled vocals, that expertly wraps this exciting and varied EP.

Where there is little doubt that Luca Cazal's past productions helped forge his musical foundation, this EP of elegant simplicity, strengthens not only the freewheeling spirit of the scene's leading independent label, but is the perfect showcase for the rapidly emerging Luca Cazal.

Due for release: 11th August 2014

Tracklist:
- Mariri
- Mariri (Stacey Pullen Remix)
- The Bullfrog (Feat. Mark Jenkyns)
- Memory Man (Feat. BL-NK SP_C_S)

DAVI - Two Suns In The Sky EP (RBL017)

Capturing the essence of the Crosstown Rebels and Robot Heart experience at Burning Man, DAVI’s selection of deep melodic odysseys for Rebellion are awash with the other-worldly magic of the Playa. A-side ‘Rebel Heart’ fuses ancient Eastern melodies with moody bass and mystical arrangements. Second track ‘Anunnaki’ (a name denoting a group of deities in ancient Mesopotamian cultures) continues the theme of spellbinding, earthy tones and on the remix, Mark Jenkyns toughens up ‘Rebel Heart’ with a squelchy acid-flecked bassline, solid kicks and overlays of his own wonky synth structures. Last but not least the masterstroke ‘Two Suns In The Sky’ hypnotises the soul with rolling drum beats and epic chords as waves of spooky energy and polyrhythms punctuate the cosmic sunrise soundscape.

The Rebel Heart party helped me find myself at Burning Man last year. The music was new and inspirational and I felt it deep inside of me. I was back in my studio within 2 days of returning from the desert, fired up by this new direction and I think I managed to create my own spin on this most magical experience and of course I sent it to Crosstown straight away".

For Armenian born 20-year-old David “DAVI” Khanjian, 2012 was a breakthrough year - with a South American tour, the release of a monster remix of Underworld’s anthem ‘Two Month’s Off’’ and playing a set to 50,000 people at Burning Man festival - a life-changing experience that inspired this EP.

After relocating to LA after attending the prestigious Komitas State Music Conservatory in Armenia, DAVI’s production career began to take off and a chance meeting with a personal hero Robert Babicz led to him doing the first ever remix for Robert’s new label Babiczstyle. Later releases came on labels such as Bits & Pieces, Armada, Outside The Box, Treibstoff, Anjunadeep and Hope Recordings.

South Shields’ finest Mark Jenkyns first appeared on the first two Hot Waves compilations, and is now a force to be reckoned with on the underground circuit with upcoming releases on the Paradise summer sampler on Hot Creations and Alex Arnout’s Dogmatik imprint.
